Habitat for HumanityFor over 20 years our church has helped Habitat build homes for the working poor in the Tuscaloosa area. Volunteers are needed to help with construction of ongoing house builds in our area. Many different skill sets are useful and if you have a desire to learn the skills, you can volunteer as an assistant (read “lifting and carrying stuff and cleaning on the build site”) and learn how to develop the carpentry skills on the job! There are volunteers that provide lunches for all the workers each day for those not keen on carpentry! Time commitment: There are usually certain build days each week and occasionally on the weekend. You would sign up for 1/2 or complete work days when volunteering. Hospice of West AlabamaHospice of West Alabama offers a safe and peaceful place for those who are dying. FLUM is responsible for all the volunteer positions the second week of each month. At the present time we have more than twenty-five FLUM members who are volunteers. Activities include, but are not limited to welcome desk greeters, nurses, inpatient assistants, home-care assistants, and transportation volunteers. Volunteers often bring homemade goodies and other food and drink for family members who are visiting their loved ones. FLUM also hosts the Candlelight Memorial Service in December. This is a time for the members of families who were served by Hospice to join together in honoring their loved ones. After the service, a reception is given. Time commitment: You can schedule your own hours / days with the coordinator for the second week of each month. Contact Information: ???

Homebound MinistriesVisiting teams go together to visit our homebound. Volunteers are needed to go in pairs to visit with our homebound members and those in the hospital. Time commitment: The teams typically visit our homebound members on a weekly basis. You would be paired with another team member and together you would decide on the best time of the day and week to do the visiting. You can determine the hours you are willing to serve each week or month and you would be scheduled accordingly. We are looking for compassionate individuals who enjoy conversation and interacting with elderly folks. Contact Information:Lib Powell | 205-553-7674

University Place Elementary SchoolVolunteers read, tutor, provide a duty free lunch and help in the classrooms. Our own Erin Flowers and Petra Burroughs are teachers in the school. Volunteers are needed to continue our adopted school support in the form of tutoring in reading K through 5th grade, providing lunches for underserved children, supporting teachers in the classrooms as needed and providing classroom parties from time to time as requested. Volunteers in this program will need to have a state background check prior to serving in the public school setting. Time commitment: You will schedule your own time for volunteering with the school coordinator. You can select days and times and frequency to help out. You can serve on a list of occasional helpers to provide lunch breaks for teachers and provide parties for classrooms or work one on one with children tutoring. Let us know what your skill set is and we can match you with the vast list of needs at University Place Elementary! Contact Information: Nancy Campbell | 205-826-4496
