Adult Sunday School Classes ![]() Adult Bible Study Where it meets: Room 225. Use the stairs nearest the Fellowship Hall, turn right at the top of the stairs. Class meets 2nd room on right. Class format: We select varying Bible books and study one or two chapters every week with member participation adding to the discussion. Discussion led by Bill Anderson and Robin Jones who are well prepared and dedicated. Materials used: The Bible Teacher: Bob Wood and others that might be led to deliver a message. Age group: young adults to elderly adults Outside activities: semi-annual class party ![]() Aldersgate Class Where it meets: Room 104. Enter the church through the drop-off area next to the sanctuary. Class meets in the third room on the left downstairs. Format: Lively discussion led by the teachers using the Adult Bible Studies materials or other timely materials. We usually open the class with news and needs of our members, and welcome new members into the class. Teachers: Lucy Deason and Lib Powell Age group: 60 - 80 year olds Activities outside Sunday format: Enjoy meals together. Respond to needs within the class and in the congregation as a whole. The Cornerstone Class The Cornerstone Class is a fellowship of adults twenty years of age and up excited about our lives with Christ. We are a no pressure group that welcomes anyone who is seeking support in their life with Christ. We enjoy frequent group fellowships which give the opportunity to learn more about each other. Class topics range from Parenting with Boundaries, to Basics of Christianity and subjects are chosen by the group. Couples and singles with and without children are all welcome to join us on any Sunday in Room 216 to learn more about how we are seeking a life with Jesus Christ. Fellowship Class A class for middle aged adults (couples and singles). Uses a variety of study material with Bible-based lessons and also consideration of social issues. We have social gatherings throughout the year. Where it meets: Room 227 - Education Bldg. Class format: Lesson discussion, open. Led by different class members. Age group:20 - 50 Activities outside of Sunday format: Regular socials, covered dish outings, volunteers in ministry, Bible study group. Casual format. Walk-ins welcome. The Genecians Class Where it meets: Room 228. First room on right at top of stairs closest to the Fellowship Hall. Class format: The Sunday school lessons are as varied as the personalities of the teachers. There are five class members who rotate as teachers insuring variety of approach and diversity of expression focusing on the life of Jesus Christ and his ministry to the world. The teachers are blessed with instructional talent and come from a number of professional backgrounds where clarity of thought and stimulating discussion are valued. Age group: Anyone aged 50 through 70 would readily fit in with the caring, loving demeanor of the members of this class. Individual members of this class provide leadership to our church through numerous service roles, offices, and functions they perform. There is a wonderful spirit of camaraderie in this community of individuals and couples. Activities: In addition to the weekly lessons, where the Lord's word is studied and discussed, this class undertakes occasional special projects. These projects might include a special Christmas program for senior citizens who are unable to be active members of the church or a class party just to socialize. Visitors are warmly welcomed and encouraged to share worship with this small body of Christ. ![]() Good Samaritan Class Where it meets: Room 212. Upstairs near the elevator. Class format: Use International Lesson with discussion format. Share life experiences. Patricia Clark is discussion leader. Age group: 50 plus singles or couples welcome. Activities outside of Sunday format: Prepare food for Good Samaritan Clinic quarterly, support missions, and often share lunch together following Sunday School. One of the first classes organized at Forest Lake United Methodist Church, several have been members more than 30 years. We welcome new members to renew our class. Where everybody is somebody and Jesus is first. The Koinonia Class Where it meets: Room 101. Class format: Singing from the Cokesbury hymnal, devotions by members and a lecture format taught by Jane Darden. Prayer concerns, birthdays and anniversaries are the closing moments. Age group: 40's and up. Average age 60's - 70's. Activities outside of Sunday format: Class dinners, travel, care for members who are ill with food and fruit baskets, calls to each other. The class invites all ages and stage to this large, warm fellowship. Men's Bible Class Where it meets: Room 214. Upstairs near the elevator. Class format: Various teachers teach The International Bible Lesson series. On fifth Sundays, the class enjoys singing hymns. Age group: Retired men. The Seekers Where it meets: Room 215 - second floor near the elevator. Class format: Open discussion led by volunteer members of the class using a wide variety of materials with primary focus on contemporary issues. Age group: Adult, young at heart. Activities outside of Sunday format: Potluck suppers. We would welcome new members. Susanna Wesley Sunday School Class Where it meets: Room 103. Enter the church at the drop-off area next to the sanctuary. The class meets off the gathering room (room also called Bride's room). Class format: We open by President welcoming members and visitors. We have a song, prayer by members or Lord's Prayer by class; sing Happy Birthday to those having birthdays that month, Treasurer's report on 1st Sunday, report on sick and shut-ins, any visits made by members. We use Adult International Bible Lessons. Teachers: Robbie Cole - 1st Sunday, Betty Cole - 2nd Sunday, Jewel Hudgins - 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sunday. Each teacher has her own style of teaching. Age group: Age 60 and above. Activities outside of Sunday format: Members of the class call sick and shut-ins. We have class luncheon at local restaurant once during summer. We make a donation to one of church sponsored Christmas activities, meals at Christmas, etc. In the event of the death of a member of the class, a complete meal is prepared for the family.
