Forest Lake UMC Mission Activities
Forest Lake UMC People

Helping others has been a mission at Forest Lake United Methodist Church for many years. The members of this church have been involved in serving the needs of others in our local community and beyond Tuscaloosa. The variety of Forest Lake's mission projects has reflected the diverse, caring spirit of its members.

This church provides full support for one of its members serving Christ in Chile in a Methodist agricultural school, has built Habitat houses, helped nurses from Belarus come to the United States to receive oncology training, and sent Volunteers in Mission teams to Chile, Brazil, Alaska and Oklahoma. The emphasis of much of the work is centered here in the "shadow of our church" where so many people fall through the cracks of our society.

Missions provides the money for twelve high risk children to attend pre-school, extended day care and after-school care in a loving, Christian environment at Forest Lake. Parties for "at risk" children and their families are given at Christmas and Easter each year.

Rehabilitation of inadequate housing is an ongoing project. Volunteers do repairs as well as major projects for elderly, indigent people and for working families unable to afford repairs.

FLUM and AAE work together to build wheelchair ramps.

One Sunday each month, members of Forest Lake go and share a service of worship at the Taylor Hardin Secure Medical Center. The patients assigned to this center have mental and emotional handicaps. We share music, prayer, preaching and personal contact. At various times in the year we share small personal items that make their lives a little more comfortable.
